The Jacobs Center for Cosmetic Surgery

Winter is the Time for Publications at The Jacobs Center

The team at The Jacobs Center for Cosmetic Surgery is ending one year and starting the next with a flurry of announcements and publication activity!

The first exciting news to share: Plastic surgeon Dr. Eric Culbertson passed his board exams and is now proud to say that he is officially certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery! This new accomplishment emphasizes his commitment to excellence in his field, as seeking board certification is an entirely voluntary endeavor and holds doctors to rigorously high standards of care.

Dr. Stanley Jacobs and Dr. Eric Culbertson capped 2018 with the appearance of their paper on skin elasticity in the Facial Plastic Surgery journal, published Dec. 4, 2018. Their article, “Effects of Topical Mandelic Acid Treatment on Facial Skin Viscoelasticity,” highlighted the results of a four-week study that included 24 patients who received twice-daily topical mandelic acid applications to the face via Stanley Jacobs MD Visco-elastic Transforming Serum with Mandelic Acid and Stanley Jacobs MD Visco-elastic Moisturizing Crème with Mandelic Acid.

The doctors used a specialized device, known as a Cutometer, to measure the viscoelastic properties of the patients’ lower eyelids, which showed a more-than 25 percent increase in elasticity and a more-than 23 percent increase in firmness after the month of mandelic acid treatments.

This is promising for both mandelic acid—which has been shown to be an effective skin-restoration treatment—as well as the Cutometer itself, which the doctors argue should be routinely used in plastic surgery settings for objective assessments of procedure results to further improve the field.

Dr. Jacobs is opening 2019 with especially big news of his own: the anticipated publication of a book he co-authored with Karen Hart. Nefertiti’s Secret details Dr. Jacobs’ discovery of an especially effective skin treatment on a 3,600-year-old Egyptian papyrus he was studying, as well as his modern application of a long-overlooked ingredient ancient Egyptians used to get a more youthful look.
